Professor Podestá teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Latin American Literature, cinema, and cultures. His main area of research is Modernity and Modernism. He is the author of two books on the Peruvian writer Cesar Vallejo: Cesar Vallejo, su estetica teatral (1985) and Desde Lute cia: modernismo y modernidad en los escritos teatrales de Cesar Vallejo (1994). He has published numerous articles in journals and critical anthologies. He is the Peruvian literature (poetry) editor for the Handbook of Latin American Studies, Library of Congress.
