Ernesto Cardenal: Poeta, sacerdote, profeta junio, 2009
El 11 de septiembre de 2008 trajo al gran poeta nicaragüense Ernesto Cardenala la Universidad de Wisconsin en Madison. El sacerdote leyó selecciones de su antología de poesía, Versos del pluriverso. En este podcastpodrán escuchar los temas característicos de su obra poética – la injusticia social, una celebración del universo y la metafísica. Otras obras escritas por el padre jesuita incluyen Hora cero (1960), Epigramas (1961), y Telescopio en la noche oscura (1993). El aplauso fue enorme después del evento. |

Elsa Tió junio, 2009 Poeta puertorriqueña Elsa Tió habla con Patricia Rengel desde su apartamento en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Acuñada como “fenómeno” a los siete años cuando escribe su primer libro, la poeta siguió escribiendo y publicando libros de poesía tales como Espejos empañados e Inventario de la soledad. Recibe en dos ocasiones el Premio Nacional de poesía. Hoy día se dedica a la escritura y talleres de poesía para los niños en las escuelas públicas de su país. |

CANTO A LUIS RAFAEL SANCHEZ
Una de las figuras más importantes de la literatura puertorriqueña, Luis Rafael Sánchez, hace una recorrida de memorias sobre Humacao, su proceso creativo y fuentes de inspiración, entre muchas otras cosas en esta intima conversación con Patricia Rengel.
Sus obras son muchas y han recibido reconocimiento internacional. Incluyen las novelas La guaracha del Macho Camacho (1976) y La importancia de llamarse Daniel Santos (1989), las obras teatrales Los ángeles se han fatigado (1960), Farsa del amor compradito (1960), La espera (1960), La hiel nuestra de cada día (1962), Sol 13, interior (1961), O casi el alma, (1965) La pasión según Antígona Pérez (1968) y Quíntuples (1985), y su libro de cuentos En cuerpo de camisa (1966). Sus ensayos incluyen La guagua aérea, No llores por nosotros, Puerto Rico y Devoráme otra vez.
En 1979 recibe la beca de la Fundación Guggenheim. Ha sido profesor y conferenciante en las principales universidades norteamericanas, de América Latina y Europa.

Meso-American Diva (9:37) - Listen to a behind-the-scenes interview between singer Lila Downs and UW doctoral student Giannina Reyes Giardiello. Lila Downs is the daughter of a Mixtec cabaret singer and a Scottish/ American cinematographer, who began singing and performing mariachi songs when she was eight years old. She was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Frida and performed at the 75th Academy Awards when the theme song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song. Downs performs her own compositions as well as selections of native Mesoamerican music.
