Professor of Spanish Linguistics

Rank: Open, to begin August 2010.

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Hispanic Linguistics or related field required, with specialization in the synchronic and diachronic linguistic analysis and description of Spanish, specifically with application to Spanish Peninsular language and its historical development.

Special consideration will also be given to candidates who in addition can offer any, or a combination, of the following fields: theories of Peninsular dialectology, language variation, sociolinguistics, or syntax. Expertise in other Romance Languages and their linguistic analysis also desirable. Candidates for tenured appointments must have a record of distinguished teaching and scholarly research. Candidates for tenure-track appointments must show potential for developing outstanding scholarly research and teaching.

All candidates must be able to teach a wide range of linguistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly phonetics and general linguistic analysis of Spanish for undergraduates, and a wide range of specialized courses for both MA and doctoral students. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required.

Assistant Professor of Spanish American Literature

Assistant Professor of Spanish American Literature, to begin August 2010. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in hand by the time of appointment expected. Required specialization in colonial literature and culture, with particular interest in 18th-19th-century late colonial literature and culture. Special consideration given to candidates with additional expertise in indigenous languages and cultures. Candidates must have native or near-native written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English. The appointment will include teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Evidence of commitment to and continued development in outstanding teaching and research is required.
