Volunteer Opportunities

Centro Hispano of Dane County is seeking dedicated individuals to serve Madison’s Latino youth as volunteer tutors/mentors in area middle and high schools. In collaboration with Schools of Hope and Urban League of Greater Madison, programs are offered at both grade levels.

ASPIRA is an academic program that aims to serve latino students in area high schools.  As a volunteer tutor, you can work with students in the classroom, match up with a student one on one, or serve as a tutor at ASPIRA’s drop-in tutoring sessions that take place 2-4 times a week after school.

Our Juventud program provides both academic support and cultural and recreational activities for all students at the middle school level.  Volunteers with these programs have the opportunity to tutor students during the day or after school in addition to participating in after-school activities with them ranging from dodge ball and basketball to cooking club and sign language chorus.

Our programs benefit greatly from the involvement of Spanish speaking tutors and students of Latino culture so please consider this chance to impact the lives of Madison’s diverse youth population. Most volunteers contribute at least one hour a week for a minimum of one semester.

We would love to tell you more about the programs to find the best place for your talents. Contact Melissa Nehmer at melissa@cdhc.us or by phone at (608) 663-7322 for more information or to get involved in volunteering.
